This one full day (9:00 am — 4:15 pm) program is designed for those who have little or no meditation experience, or even for those with experience in other types of meditation. During the course of the day, you will learn the basics of sitting postures and settling the body. We will be practicing Shinkantaza (Just Sitting meditation), Kinhin (Walking meditation) as well as guided meditation. You can schedule time with sensei for personal consultation (dokusan) during the second and third meditation sessions.
The topic of the Dharma Talks and Discussions will be The Great Heart Sutra. This sutra is the very heart and soul of Mahayana Buddhism yet it can be confusing and difficult to grasp. Sensei will be discussing how we can break away from a need for intellectual understanding of it and accept it as practical instruction for our day to day lives.
Retreat Leader:
Sensei Glenn Gustafson, OPB (Shi Ge Jie) is an ordained monk in the Order of Pragmatic Buddhists - which holds Ch’an (Chinese Zen) lineage - and serves at the Central Ohio Center for Pragmatic Buddhism. He has written a liturgical guide for Western practice called The Buddhist Breviary and a collection of meditations on being a Western Buddhist called The World is Our Monastery. Both will be available for purchase at the retreat.
