Diversity and Inclusion at the Space
Statement of Inclusion and Support, 06/03
The Columbus Space is about acceptance, respect and trust. It is about listening openly, speaking candidly, and exploring without boundaries. The Columbus Space is also about equality, inclusion, understanding, and compassion. The Columbus Space DOES NOT include, condone, or tolerate racism, discrimination, hate or violence. We are more determined than ever to ensure the physical safety of our community members.
The directors have thought a lot about these ideas as we bear witness to the events that have transpired over the last weeks – from peaceful protests and deeply felt pain to outrage and riots. And in the spirit of transparency, we have struggled with what to say and how to say it. We have experienced a range of emotions. We have been saddened, horrified and angered by racial injustice and the possibility of any one of our community members being in danger.
We support those peacefully working for change, and we support Black Lives Matter in the ongoing effort to end systemic violence and racism. Only through the local, regional, and global acceptance and integration of diversity and inclusion, can we all truly rise from the clutches of violence and discrimination.
This is a difficult and painful time. It is a time for reflection, for discussion and – most importantly – for action. We will be doing the critical work of looking at our policies and making changes where we can do better. We will begin by engaging the help of our community to create a Diversity Council to develop clear objectives for The Columbus Space and our greater community. If you have an interest in being a part of this council, please contact Sheba at email@example.com.
We must never allow anything to force us apart. We are stronger together.
